After much speculation and anticipation, with nearly all the details of Friday's secret U2 concert leaked by local and national news sources, all that remained was the official confirmation from Fordham's administration. Shortly before 6:00 p.m., many Fordham students' lifelong wishes officially came true.
An email sent from the Office of the President formally invited members of the Fordham community "to a very special, televised performance of Good Morning America (GMA) featuring U2 on Friday, March 6, 2009." This private concert will only be open to the student body, faculty, staff, and Trustees of the university. Fordham identification will be required for admittance to the event.
The morning will kick off with a "Good Morning Fordham!" breakfast in the Marketplace from 5:00-6:30 a.m., though crowds will be permitted to start entering Eddie's at 5:30 a.m., "rain or shine." Live shots of the crowd will be aired starting at 7:00 a.m., so everyone is recquired to be in place by 6:30 a.m. At 8:00, the big moment will have finally arrived, and U2 will begin performing "at various intervals until the show ends at 9 a.m.," the message states.
A stage is already being set up on the steps of Keating Hall in preparation for the performance, and the first two sessions of Friday morning classes have been canceled at both Rose Hill and Lincoln Center.
The administration encourages the use of public transportation and notes that only those with a parking permit will be allowed to park on campus. Additionally, "No alcoholic beverages, backpacks, briefcases, packages, bottles or signs will be allowed in the performance area," and viewers are advised to dress warmly because of the amount of time they will be standing outside.
More details are expected to be revealed soon, so check back with theramonline.com for the latest developments.
