The Fordham softball team opened up its 2012 conference schedule last Friday in the midst of a five game winning streak. The initial Atlantic 10 battle took place in a doubleheader against the La Salle Explorers. The first game of the day had Fordham continuing its winning ways as the Rams defeated the Explorers 9-1.

Senior infielder Nicole Callahan is a captain and leader of the Fordham softball team. After an accolade-filled high school career in Freehold, New Jersey, Nicole burst on to the scene in her sophomore year, when she played in 44 of the team’s 61 games, and collected 30 hits and 14 runs.

Fordham softball went 1-4 in the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. In the cross-country trip, Fordham competed against some of the best teams in the nation. On the first day of competition in the Classic, Fordham lost its first game to UC-Davis by a score of 6-2.
