The Ram: Why did you choose to come to Fordham?

Tim Hartnett: I wanted to be in the city, I liked what the track program had to offer, and I have family around here.

TR: You said that you liked what the track program had to offer. What specifically did you like about the program?

TH: I liked the attitude here.

TR: You've had a successful season so far. What exactly have you done to improve over the past four years?

TH: I've focused more on workouts, making hard days harder and I've been staying more focused on off days.

TR: The team has also done better this year. What has the team done to get better?

TH: This year the team's had a great attitude. We've been excited for cross country and have focused on the next meet. Two new coaches have also brought a lot of exciting ideas. We have really good freshman and sophomore classes as well.

TR: How long have you run cross and distance?

TH: I started swimming when I was little. I was the worst guy on the team, but I loved it. When I got to middle school, we didn't have a swim team so I was told to try cross country. I was still the worst on the team, slower than all of the boys and the girls, but I stuck with it. I've also tried steeplechase, and the video is still online. I was running and tripped on the barrier and a teammate fell on me.

TR: Do you have any goals for the rest of the season?

TH: I want to get under 15 minutes in the 5k, that's about it. It's probably my essential goal.

TR: As a team do you have any goals?

TH: I think we can do really well in the Atlantic 10 tournament. I don't think we can win it but I think we can do well and turn some heads.

TR: Do you have any plans after graduation?

TH: I want to find a job teaching in the city.

TR: Any particular subject?

TH: I want to teach history.

TR: What level?

TH: High school.
