The Fordham water polo team has players who are capable of breaking out in a game and being close to unstoppable. Unfortunately, a few great performances do not make for a great game, and the Rams learned that the hard way on Sept. 24, falling 13-12 in overtime to local rival Queens College.
As the weather gets cooler and the leaves begin to change colors, it can only mean one thing - playoff baseball is finally here. After 162 games, this is where every team hopes to be come October, and with some new faces in both the American and National Leagues, it should make for a very interesting postseason.
After a week off, the Fordham men's and women's cross country teams returned to Fairfield University for the Father Leeber, S.J. Invitational. On the same course they ran two weeks ago, the final team results were also the same: second place for the men, third for the women.
The Fordham men's soccer team has had trouble maintaining consistency during the non-conference portion of its schedule. This weekend's game was another tough loss that could have ended better. Going into Saturday's game at Hartwick, the Rams (3-4-1) were flying high after a momentum-building 2-0 week.
Athlete Profile: Goalkeeper Timmy Will Senior goalkeeper Timmy Will, an economics major from Surfside, FL, has been the Rams' starting goalkeeper since he arrived at Fordham. He has posted totals of 156, 195 and 205 saves each year, his last coming just two shy of the Fordham single-season record.
The Fordham volleyball team opened the Atlantic 10 conference with a bang this past Saturday, winning against LaSalle in only three games. Their winning streak in the A-10, however, was interrupted by a loss against Temple on Sunday. The LaSalle match ended in a win, with game scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-23.
When the Giants won the Super Bowl last year, the entire city went wild, as it should have. Not only had the Giants kept the Patriots from going undefeated for the first time since the '72 Dolphins, but New York had also finally reasserted itself over its hated rival Boston after suffering recent national championships by the Red Sox, Celtics, Boston College and others.
The Fordham women's soccer team has jumped out to a 2-0 start in conference play and currently sits in second place with six points. The Lady Rams (5-3-1 overall, 2-0 conference) rallied from a two-goal deficit at George Washington and shut out St. Louis at home.
Picked to finish first in the Patriot League, the Fordham football team began league play this past Saturday with a loss to the Colgate Raiders at home. It rained the entire evening, but that did not stop the 3,112 fans in attendance at Jack Coffey Field from watching as the Rams let the game slip away in the final seconds, losing by a score of 31-24.
