Vice president of NBC News and executive producer of NBC Nightly News Alexandra Wallace came to the Keating 3rd auditorium to speak to Professor Beth Knobel's Introduction to Journalism class on Tuesday, April 8. Wallace worked at CBS for 17 years before moving to NBC three years ago.
Knobel gave Wallace a quick introduction, calling her "one of the top female news executives in the country today."
There were about 50 students in attendance because the event was open to all students. Wallace answered students' questions and gave advice to those who were interested in a career in news media.
Wallace highlighted the importance of not being picky when job hunting in the industry.
"Take anything in this line of work that you can get," she said. "I started answering phones and working for free."
Wallace also addressed issues such as how technology is changing news media, the importance of booking good interviews and knowing the audience, and balancing her home life with her career.
