Ron Jacobson
Ron Jacobson, Ph.D., the associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the summer session, was recently named executive director of academic programs at Fordham's new Westchester campus.
Jacobson has quite a history at Fordham and has held a variety of positions, including the associate chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, and associate dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill. Jacobson also founded the Summer Sports Communications Institute.
"I think Fordham is a special place, and I feel fortunate that I have been given this new administrative opportunity, which no doubt will be challenging, a learning experience and hopefully fun," Jacobson said.
The new campus, located in Harrison, NY, will serve as the home of the adult undergraduate college and Graduate Schools of Business Administration, Education, Social Service, Religion and Religious Education. Jacobson will work to advance educational opportunities at the new site, and he is excited to get started.
"It's going to be a brand new campus, and we have recently launched an advertising campaign, centered in Westchester, to create buzz," Jacobson said. "We think the convenient location, as well as the quality of our Fordham programs, will attract people to the campus."
Jacobson and representatives from the various graduate schools are meeting regularly to plan for the campus' fall 2008 opening. Jacobson's main intention is to create a meaningful campus culture at the school.
"In addition to our degree programs, we will be developing certificate and non-credit course offerings," he said. "We also hope to offer lecture series and special events at the campus, serving both our students and residents of the neighboring communities."
Joel Reidenberg
Beginning in July, Joel Reidenberg, Ph.D., will join Academic Affairs as the associate vice president and associate chief academic officer. Reidenberg, a faculty member at the Law School, will continue to direct the Center on Law and Information Policy.
Reidenberg will work to further the educational mission of the University, working towards the 2016 strategic plan.
Reidenberg joined the Law School faculty in 1990 and has an extensive background. The author of three books and several other published works, Reidenberg also served as an advisor to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the European Commission. He is also the current president of the faculty senate.
"I am delighted that Dr. Reidenberg has accepted this new position in Academic Affairs," Stephen Freedman, senior vice president and chief academic officer, said. "He brings a distinguished record of academic scholarship and teaching, excellent organizational ability and communication skills, and a broad institutional perspective to our work."
