Spring Fever Hits Fordham

Campus Activities Board Sponsors Annual Spring Weekend

"You guys are lucky," Yellowcard lead singer Ryan Key said between songs during Saturday afternoon's concert. "You've got the best band ever for the best weekend ever." Though a few students may have disagreed (Key was hit in the shoulder by an apple and two others missed their mark), the majority of the student body seemed to enjoy Spring Weekend 2007.

Fordham Bids Farewell to Marymount

The last class of Marymount College, the women's college of Fordham University, will receive their diplomas on May 20, 2007. They will be the last undergraduate students stand proudly on Kenny Field, the site of 99 previous commencement ceremonies. Mother Marie Joseph Butler founded the institution in 1907 with the mission to "create a place of learning where women could grow and where they could receive an education that would prepare them for positions of leadership and influence the world.

Seniors Upset Over Rising Ticket Prices

Every year, Fordham provides a week of farewell events for its graduating class. This annual send-off is, for some, the highlight of the year. The week starts after finals end on Tuesday, May 15, with a kick-off "Luau" on the McGinley Lawn (cost: $15/person).

Marymount Alumni Establish Legacy Fund

Though Fordham University's Marymount College may be closing at the end of the school year, a group of women are working to ensure that the legacy of the college will live on for decades to come. The Marymount College Alumni Association has chosen to celebrate the successes of the school over the past century through the establishment of the Marymount Legacy Fund, a scholarship program that will provide financial assistance while encouraging women at Fordham to become leaders in society.

Students React to Core Revisions

Throughout this year, the Core Curriculum Revision Committee has worked with both administrators and students to update Fordham University's esteemed core curriculum. The process of revising the core began this past October. Since then, the committee has met weekly to discuss the many possible options for Fordham's refurbished mandatory curriculum.

Study Shows Tanning can be Addictive

Tanning has become the latest trend with adolescents and young adults. They yearn to remain bronzed and beautiful all year long and battle against their naturally pale skin. Lately, researchers have begged the question, "Is tanning just a fad or has it evolved into an addiction?" The danger of tanning comes from the ultraviolet (UV) light that comes from both the sun and tanning beds that damages the genetic information inside the skin cells that results in premature aging of the skin, which can sometimes trigger cancer.
