A Legend Gone Wrong?

11/29/11 11:54 PM

Anyone who knows anything about college football has heard of the legendary Joe Paterno, coach of the traditional Penn State Nittany Lions.  Up until recently, Joe Pa was a living legend of the sports world, yet his strong reputation crashed upon the revelation of cases of sexual abuse within his program.  Jerry Sandusky, long time assistant coach for Penn State, was recently charged with sexually abusing eight of his own players on Penn State property.  Where does Joe Pa come into play? He knew of the abuse going on and did not do enough to stop it.  One of the most reputable programs in the national crumbled before our eyes within days. When questioned with regard to his actions, Jerry Sandusky proclaimed innocence.  Sandusky explained that he...

NCAA Basketball Preview

11/9/11 2:43 AM

Even though NBA players find themselves stuck on the bench this season, college players are ready to start in full-swing this coming week.  While it seems like just yesterday that we watched UConn cut down the nets in Houston last April, the offseason is over and the 2011-2012 season has begun. So who should you be watching? Which schools will be playing on the big stage this coming year? Topping the charts this year are the reigning National Champions UConn, along with North Carolina, Ohio State and Kentucky.  This is a typical pre-season list, but many are predicting some interesting storylines during this upcoming season. One major question among fans is whether or not the Tar Heels can pull off an undefeated season. While such a feat has not been accomplished...

Major NCAA Changes Coming Soon to a University Near You!

11/2/11 12:41 AM

The $2,000 addendum was part of NCAA policy in the seventies and was reintroduced not as a pay-to-play but instead to help alleviate the external costs for the players, which typically...

Hail Mary, Michigan State was Graced

10/26/11 12:48 AM

Anyone tuned into the Wisconsin/Michigan State game on Saturday night witnessed a storybook ending when Michigan State defeated the Badgers in the last four seconds of the game.  After further review of the instant replay, the controversial call went in favor of the Spartans, who miraculously won the game with a 44-yard Hail Mary pass, beating the previously undefeated Badgers. The game went back and forth between the two teams, finding itself in a tie during the last couple minutes.  The Spartans struggled to move into field goal range, and found themselves nowhere close with single digits of play left.  So they went with “the Rocket,” a play practiced once a week that is rarely used yet is occasionally quite valuable.  After much bobbling and strong...
