It’s Official: I’m a Fantasy Football Jinx!

11/4/09 3:47 PM

I recommend Leon Washington and Shaun Hill and what happens?  Washington goes down for the season with a broken fibula and Shaun Hill loses his starting job. But wait, it gets better.   I tell you to sit Steve Slaton, and all he did was go off for his best game of the season.     Therefore, this week I’m switching gears and going back to listing players who should be owned if they’re still on your league’s waiver wire.  Minimal editorial content this week, because I’m letting the players do all the talking.  I’m done, finito, tapped out, washed up…you get the point.   Ten Players who Should Definitely be Owned:   1. Hakeem, Nicks – Giants, WR – Still only owned in 38 percent of ESPN...

"Leon Can Do Everythang"

10/25/09 10:30 PM

All of the breakout players in the past two weeks have taught me a very humbling lesson about fantasy sports: I’m not the only one who can’t predict the future.   With that said, I’m going to take a stab back into the Start’em, Sit’em realm, this time just recommending one player per position, and with no record determinant.  The pressure is off, so here…we…go.   Start’Em:   Shaun Hill, 49ers QB – If you’re looking for a ‘Bye’ week fill-in, here’s your guy.  His numbers aren’t flashy, but he should be able to get the job done against the Texans this week, as he’ll have to throw a ton to keep up with their passing game.  The one problem here is that the...

Pick Up the Pace

10/13/09 1:25 AM

Ashamed? Yes.   Disappointed?  Yes squared.   Apologetic?  Maybe a little.   The world of fantasy football can be cruel, harsh and unforgiving – believe me, after last week, I feel like crawling under a rock.  I couldn’t have been any more wrong with my Start’em picks of Darren McFadden and Mark Sanchez and my Sit’em pick of Ronnie Brown.  That’s why I’m taking a step back this week to assess my strategy and “Recharge my batteries” (had to throw in a Wedding Crashers reference eventually).     Sometimes change is good so, instead of my usual Start’em Sit’em column, I’m going to take a stab into the word of waiver wire pickups.  Maybe this change of scenery will...

Time for a Coffee Break

9/30/09 1:35 AM

Okay, so my guarantee last week didn’t quite come to fruition, but I’m still playing .500 ball – not that that’s anything to get excited about.     No more trash talk this week, as I’m going to let my picks do all the talking.     Week 3 Record: 5-5 Overall Record: 13-13   Win/Loss Determiner:  QBs: 15+ fantasy points RBs: 10+ fantasy points WRs: 7+ fantasy points TEs: 6 + fantasy points    Scoring system: 4 Pts/Pass TD 1 Pt/25 pass yards 6 Pts/Rush-Rec TD 1 Pt/10 Rush-Rec yards -2 Pts/INT or FL   Start’em:   1. Donald Brown, RB, Colts – To say that Brown looked explosive last week would be an understatement.  The rook from UConn can flat out play, and it looks...

Week Two

9/23/09 7:49 PM

Okay, so I’ll be the first one to admit it: My picks stunk last week.  Rivers went off, while Bennett and Gage did absolutely nothing.     This week I’m getting back on track and gaining your trust back.  That’s a GUARANTEE! Here’s this week’s list:    Week 2 record: 4-6 Overall record: 8-8   Win/Loss Determinant:  QBs: 15+ fantasy points RBs: 10+ fantasy points WRs: 7+ fantasy points TEs: 6 + fantasy points    Scoring system: 4 Pts/Pass TD 1 Pt/25 pass yards 6 Pts/Rush or Rec TD 1 Pt/10 Rush or Rec yards -2 Pts/INT or FL   Start’em:   1. Lee Evans, WR, Bills – Evans may have had only one catch last week, but it was for a touchdown.  He’s a...
