LT State of Mind

3/24/10 7:06 PM

Good-bye, Thomas Jones, and hello, LaDainian Tomlinson. While the Chiefs nabbed Jones for a two-year, $5 million contract, the Jets turned around and signed Tomlinson to a strikingly similar deal – two years, $5.2 million. L.T. will have no excuses if he can’t produce this year, because he will be running behind arguably the best offensive line in the league. There is no doubt that he is on the downside of his career, but his veteran leadership and “team first” mentality should work wonders for Mark Sanchez and company. At least, the Jets better hope so, or they’ll be second-guessed all season long for letting Jones walk after the best season of his career.  Similarly, quarterback Brady Quinn’s stint in Cleveland came to an end as he...

Running Free: Big Name Backs on the Move

3/24/10 7:04 PM

There have been so many moves in the NFL already that my head is spinning like I just got off of a tea cup ride – and we all know how that usually ends up.   In deciding where to begin, it only seems fitting to start with a future first ballot Hall of Famer, LaDainian Tomlinson. It’s no secret that LT’s skills have been in decline over the past few years, and a look at his yards per carry average is a telling indication. In his 2006 record-breaking touchdown season – 28 rushing scores – Tomlinson averaged a whopping 5.2 yards-per-carry. Since 2006, his average has dropped from 4.7 in 2007, to 3.8 in 2008, while ultimately hitting career lows in yards – 729 rushing – and yards per carry, with 3.3 per attempt last...

Saints Feel-Good Champs

2/18/10 2:29 PM

Why go to Disney World when you can just go to Bourbon Street? Fortunately for the New Orleans Saints, they were able to get the best of both worlds as they overcame an early 10-point deficit to win Super Bowl XLIV. Mardi Gras was in full swing as the “Who Dat” faithful celebrated the first Super Bowl in team history, showing that they have come a long way from their infamous anemic 1980 season in which the team finished 1-15. While the past has been bleak to say the least, the future could not be any brighter for Sean Payton’s bunch, as the black and gold did not deviate from what they had done all season long: win football games. The Saints finished the regular season 13-3, but, after losing their final three games, doubt started to creep in about...

Favre's Fountain of Youth

11/13/09 2:04 AM

We’re back after a one-week absence and there is a lot to get caught up on. A lot has happened in two weeks, so I’ll keep it short and sweet and get right into what you need to know to get caught up.   100 words or less, here we go:   Brett Favre has rekindled the magic in Minnesota…At 6-0, the Saints, in my opinion, are the best team in the NFL…The Jets have gone from contenders to pretenders in the blink of an eye after dropping three straight…The Bucs, Browns, and Rams are all atrocious…Tennessee is 0-6 (time for Vince Young?)…Josh McDaniels is the one branch from the Belichick tree that has stuck, leading the Broncos to a 6-0 start…Peyton Manning is still the clear-cut favorite for M.V.P…The clock is...
