  In an interview on NBC, Hannah Kearney said “my goal was to be in an Olympic montage,” but in reality she accomplished much more. Kearney won the first American gold medal at the 2010 games in women’s mogul skiing on Saturday, Feb. 13th.  Mogul is a freestyle skiing event that consists of an athlete traveling downhill over a series of bumps or moguls. In between these moguls, there are two jumps where the skier must perform an aerial trick off of a kicker. The athletes are also timed for the quickness in which they finish the course.  Kearney won gold in the women’s mogul competition with a back flip, 360 degree jump and by finishing the course in 27.86 seconds. Her win was quite a comeback from her 22nd-place finish at the 2006...

  Apolo Anton Ohno, one of the most well-known athletes on the United States winter Olympic team, is one medal away from becoming the greatest U.S. winter Olympian ever. As of Saturday, Feb. 13, he was tied with Bonnie Blair, a retired U.S. speed skater who has six medals, five of which are gold and one bronze. Ohno won his first gold in the 2002 Salt Lake City games in the 1500m short track speed skating competition. In the Salt Lake City Games, he also won silver in the 1000 meters event. Four years later in the Turin games, Ohno won three medals, one gold and two bronzes. On Saturday night Apolo Ohno won silver in the 1500m race, his sixth medal. He now has two medals of every color.
